Mold is everywhere! It is simply unavoidable. It is in the air we breath and around us at all times.

Some molds are good and advantageous – mold puts the bleu in Bleu Cheese, they make wine better, and enable the healing properties of penicillin to work it’s magic in our bodies.

Severe reactions may include fever and shortness of breath. Some people with chronic lung illnesses, such as obstructive lung disease, may develop mold infections in their lungs.”

We spend our days inspecting, testing and removing mold from Raleigh area homes and businesses, but if you follow these tips you can prevent mold before it starts.  Of course if everyone followed our advice we could conceivably go out of business, but not everyone is as smart as you.

Lead-Safe Work Practices at Atlantic Corp.

As a Raleigh area mold remediation contractor Atlantic Corp. plays an important role in helping prevent lead exposure for both our clients and our staff.  Common renovation activities like cutting, sanding and demolition during the mold remediation process can create hazardous lead dust and chips when lead-based paint is present.  Naturally, this can be harmful for both children and adults.

In 2008, the EPA issued a rule requiring the use of lead-safe practices and additional actions targeted toward preventing lead poisoning.  Under the rule, beginning April 22, 2010 contractors performing renovations that will disturb lead-based paint in pre-1978 homes, child care facilities and school must be certified and are required to follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. This has come to be known as the RRP  Rule,  or the Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule.

Health Symptoms of a Mold Problem

Sometimes mold growth is plainly visible, which makes it easy to identify that you may have a mold problem.  However, often mold grows in a places you just do not see which makes diagnosing a mold issue difficult. If mold grows undetected over a period of time you could experience health issues due to mold exposure.  While there are many sources of information about the health impact of mold on the internet, we decided none are as reliable or as well researched as the Environmental Protection Agency.

Can you tell me if what I see/experience is mold or not?

Mold is one of those things that is hard to verify over the phone, even when you give us the best description.  We always offer free visual estimates and based on what we see we can provide an estimate on costs to diagnose and remediate any mold present.  Due to our experience, we can be pretty accurate with a visual inspection alone, however the only real way to know what type of mold you are dealing with an it’s potential toxicity is to perform an air or swab mold test.
